METIS
metis is an interaction between the short experimental works of six playwrights and the continuous improvisation of six musicians. it is an exploration of communication and miscommunication -- as indicated by the name metis, the Greek term for deceptive speech and appearance. The twelve members of the ensemble meet beforehand to explore the process of improvisation and discourse. the theatre artists then each prepare a short experimental piece inspired by these interactions and the theme of (mis)communication. In January, the writing process will continue on-stage as the theatre artists and musicians respond, react, and rebut one another. The resulting interplay of word and non-word, of sound and gesture, of emotion and thought, mimics human interaction and the confusion that can sometimes arise within it.www.themetis.org
